What is Mechwarrior: Project Winter War?
It is the 36th century, and mankind is once again at war. The forces of Clan Ash Leopard, a Clan of strange philosophies and unknown origin, have arrived in the Inner Sphere with one purpose: to reinstate and protect the Star League according to Aleksandr Kerensky’s wishes, whether by force or consent. As the Inner Sphere defends itself from this reformed Clan, each faction must come to terms with what is best for its people, and for the Inner Sphere as a whole.
Project Winter War has three primary facets: An overhaul and story mod for MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries, an expansion module for Classic BattleTech, and a novella series covering our story in true BattleTech style. We have worked hard for the last two years to ensure our story is fully consistent with all published BattleTech canon, true to form with the BattleTech universe, and at least as high quality as the BattleTech novel line, and we are super excited to start sharing our awesome story!
The MW5 mod will tell our story over nine sequentially released chapters, including new ‘Mechs, tech, hand-crafted campaign missions, and even an all-new soundtrack and custom (non-cringey) voice acting. We will also be changing weapon and equipment behavior to be more accurate to BattleTech lore, and we are working with other large MW5 modding projects to create the best MechWarrior experience yet. The expansion module for Classic BattleTech will feature one entirely new techset known as “Evolved Tech” and an update to existing technology known as “Synth Tech”; both complete with entirely new ‘Mech designs alongside existing chassis that have been redesigned for the modern battlefield. We have tested our tech extensively for balance and enjoyment and are very proud of the final product. Finally, our novella series is being written by a former storywriter for Bungie, who worked on Destiny, among other things. This is still in the somewhat early stages, but we are super excited to be able to share our story in this format. We are a mixed team of passionate fans and industry professionals, and we are always looking to grow our team. See you on the battlefield!
